Old House, Old Memories

Posted on Aug 24, 2010 by Brandon

I just got chills reading a certain line in the book “The Three Only Things” by Robert Moss. It is a section about “Dreams of the Old Place,” talking about the dreamer’s soul and how a person’s dream can tell the person about his or her soul, and what is missing in that person’s life. The line reads, “We may find ourselves returning in dreams, again and again, to a childhood home. These dreams may be an invitation to reach back into that place and recover one of our soul-selves that is stuck there.”

I moved out of my old house 10 years ago and never ever went back inside. I cannot tell you the countless number of dreams I have had of that old house (or maybe I can? I post them all on my site!)  Most of the time, I’m dreaming I’m in my room, opening my closet and looking at what’s inside. Of course I wake up in the morning thinking, “Hmm, what clothes and shoes did I have in there?” Other times I dream that I’m walking in from my front door and I’m in my kitchen, opening the cabinets and the refrigerator, curious to see what’s inside. From what I have heard, the inside of my old house is completely different now. Everything has changed, from the floors to the wall colors (I wouldn’t be surprised, I mean, we had green carpet, so who wouldn’t want to change that?) The bad part is that my relatives live right next door to my old house, so I see it almost every few weeks. I only get to see the outside, and I have to leave the rest up to my imagination. I could sometimes get a peak inside the kitchen, but nothing more. I think my constant dreams of my old house keep telling me to go back inside, to see what’s changed. I need closure with my old house, but I don’t know if I want closure. I want to remember my old house the way it was when I moved. My childhood memories are all in that house, and if I ever go back inside, it will be like walking into a new and strange place. Those memories will no longer belong in that house; they will only belong in my head, and in my dreams. Could these dreams of my old house keep telling me that there is still a part of my soul-self stuck in that old house? It’s possible, but I’m not sure if I will ever go back to get it.

Scattered dreams much?

Posted on Jul 21, 2010 by DreamQueenSB

Why did I add a section about scattered dreams? Well look at the picture. Do you have those nights where you dream in “scattered pieces?” Where each dream is its own random piece, and no matter how hard you try, you can’t put each piece together because they just don’t fit!I definitely do. My dreams will be so scattered sometimes that I’ll wake up thinking, “What on earth did I just see last nite?” I also wonder how I can write it down, because there is no way it will make sense for me to write all the images I saw as one story. I sometimes have those dreams where it just goes from one scene to another and I have no idea how it got there! I love when my dream can be seen as a complete puzzle, a long story that is easy for me to write down.

It's possible that my dreams don’t flow because recently, my brain is all over the place. I’ve been feeling very distracted by many things lately. I’m not able to focus on one thing, and I see a million different people and objects in my dreams. I have too much going on, too many thoughts before I sleep and this could be a reason why my dreams are so scattered. The "movies" I watch when I'm sleeping are all over the place, they have no order and don't make sense at all. I felt that it would be easier to have a scattered category, where you could just write down everything you saw. No order necessary, and no pressure as to how you could write down the dream so it makes sense to other readers.

Do you remember your dreams?

Posted on Jul 14, 2010 by DreamQueenSB

How come some people remember dreams and others don’t? I’ve been telling a few people about this website, and some responses I’ve been getting from people are that they don’t remember their dreams, so they’d have nothing to submit. Up until recently, some of the people I had told about the site, just told me that all of a sudden they are now dreaming and they are even remembering their dreams. How awesome is that? I’m hoping to awaken a few people’s minds as they drift off to bed and start dreaming. Dreams are like movies, so why not go to sleep and watch a free movie every night? I must admit, sometimes I see way too many “movies” and it really disrupts my peaceful night of sleep. Other times my dreams are all over the place and I wake up thinking, wow, how do I even explain what I dreamt last nite? Too confusing!!

I read an article on “wikihow.com” on how to remember dreams. (http://www.wikihow.com/Remember-Dreams). The first step is to “make a conscious decision to remember your dreams.” Now, it’s possible that my friends were telling themselves to remember their dreams after I told them about the site, and that’s a good thing! I’m glad my site has caused them to dream, and to wake up remembering their dreams. It gives them something to write about on the site, and I’m very excited about that. So if you’re one of those people who don’t ever dream, or if you don’t remember your dreams, make that decision before you sleep to remember your dream and hopefully you will wake up with an amazing story to tell.

Why do we see certain people in our dreams?

Posted on Jun 21, 2010 by DreamQueenSB

Did you know that when people appear in your dreams, it’s because that person wants to see you? -Claire Suddath, TIME.com

I think it’s the exact opposite. When I keep seeing people in my dreams, it’s because they’ve been on my mind for some reason lately. For example, I went to a concert the other day, and an old friend of mine was in the band. After the concert, I left without getting a chance to talk to her. I really regretted not getting to see her and I kept thinking about it every day that week. Guess who I kept seeing in my dreams? Yes, her. I think it would be pretty awesome if the people I saw in my dreams wanted to see me, though.

What do you think?

You're in Control

Posted on Jun 16, 2010 by DreamQueenSB

Have you ever been able to control your dreams? I once knew I was dreaming and even asked myself to look at the date and time. I was in my old house which I have missed so much, and really wanted to treasure every moment of being there. I told myself to somehow find a way to know what day it was. I found a milk carton and the date on the carton said November 26, 2006. It's crazy knowing you can be in control of the things you see when you sleep. I dream of my old house because I have not been able to see the inside ever since I moved. When I dream of my old house, I get to revisit a place that holds so many memories. If I could  take control of every dream I had, I would, wouldn't you?

Communication is Key

Posted on Jun 10, 2010 by DreamQueenSB

Do you have dreams where you confront people you could never confront in real life? I do. I’ve had those dreams countless number of times. Usually I’m confronting the same person. It’s so easy in my dreams to say everything I need to say to the person, and in each dream, I get a different reaction from the person. In John Mayer’s “Say What You Need to Say,” he sings “It’s better to say too much, than to never say what you need to say.” Communication is important, but exactly how much? Do you sometimes think that your dreams are giving you a sign? Are my dreams telling me to go confront this person in real life? I feel like I’ve confronted the person so many times in my dreams, that I’m over it and don’t need to do it in person. I do all my dirty work in my dreams and have no need for it in real life. I know that if I communicate with this person in real life, these dreams will go away. I think I like the excitement and drama that occurs in my dreams, so for now, I’ll keep the confrontations for my dreams.

“Inception” Movie, starring Leonardo Dicaprio

This movie is about mind invasion, where Leonardo Dicaprio plays “Dom Cobb, a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable.” (www.imdb.com) Imagine something like this was possible? I completely agree that we are most vulnerable while we are dreaming. We have the ability to control what we see when we dream. When we’re afraid, we choose to run and scream (although most times no sound comes out). We do things in our dreams that we know we would never do in real life, because we know we are dreaming, and that it’s not real. I have dreams where I know I’m dreaming, and I ask myself questions such as, “Check the time, what time is it? What day is it in my dream?”  I feel like if a character such as Dom Cobb did exist, I’d be afraid to sleep every night. My dreams give me the ability to be creative and use my imagination in every way possible, and to have someone enter my dreams, and steal secrets, would be like an invasion of privacy to me. Glad it’s just a movie.

I definitely want to see it. Here is the trailer on youtube!

Why a Site About Dreams?

As I always say, "I'm a dreamer, I hope you are too." Anytime I sleep, I dream, and I am fortunate enough to wake up remembering my dreams. I usually have 3-5 dreams every time I sleep, so I always have a great story to tell the next morning about what I experienced during the night. I love sharing those dreams with my friends and family members. Sure, most of the time, my mother will think of a great superstitious meaning for the dream. It could be that I will be getting married soon, or that I am going to live a very long life. My friends will have different, realistic interpretations. Either way, I love hearing what the people around me have to say about the stories I call dreams. I love hearing about my friends’ and family members’ dreams. It makes me dig deep and try to analyze the true meaning and reason behind the dreams. All my past dreams, the good and the bad, have inspired me to create a public blog about dreams. I want to tell you about my dreams, and I want to hear about yours too!

Deja-Dream

Posted on May 25, 2010 by DreamQueenSB

Do you ever have Deja Vu? How about Deja Dream? You know-when you see the same dream over and over? This usually doesn't happen to me but for some reason it happened recently and I think it's the craziest thing.  I don't mind if it's a good dream that's being repeated, but if it's one of those nightmares that just follows you around, then that could get ugly. Luckily for me, my recent Deja Dream had to do with memories when I was a child in my old house. I never got to see my old house after I moved, so when I dreamt about it, it was like I was back, and I liked it.
